les substistance courtyard

so right now i am sitting outside our residences at a lovely table that was once filled with a delicious meal prepared by jeff larson, big dance’s video master, consisting of coconut curry, lentils and rice. it was magnifique. here are some photos of my last couple days for your pleaseur :

cheap french prescription antacid.

i ate kebab two days ago.

apparently that’s some kind of (delicious-ish) gyro-like meat stuffed in a pita. it made my stomach feel like it was going to explode for two days. ew.

anyway. the point of telling you this is that michael moore was right! prescription drugs in france are f’in’ cheap!

as you probably know, the dollar sucks right now, so i was assuming that things would be ludicrously overpriced. for example, an 8 oz bottle of apple juice cost 3 euro, roughly $4.50. my prescription antacids (pictured above) cost a whopping 1 euro 58. that’s like 3 bucks. kidding? no way. for reals. for super super seriouses.

so yes. get sick in france. it’s cheaper.

i promise - now that i’m kebab-less - my posts will be more interesting. katie and i are going to take a morning stroll to buy phone cards tomorrow, so i’ll take some basic photos of the immediate surroundings and post them for your viewing pleasure.

til then, i’ll eat blandly, and drink only cassis and flat water. it’s yum.

a view from katie\'s window

this is me sticking my head out of katie’s room’s window precariously dangling her laptop in my greasy hands - the same laptop i’m typing on right now in the “common area”/stairwell, while katie tries to stay awake.

we had a lovely, albeit exhausting, trip to lyon, and now we are in a weird flux of jetlag and simple nougatine ice cream (what the hell is that? delicious.) um.

this place is fucking awesome. will fill you in more in the future.

parents - i made it safe and sound.

friends - envy me.

mom’s friends from the y - hey girls! j’taime!

cupcakes!

this past weekend jess, katie, her friend matt and i went out to fire island for a bon-voyage weekend. we had the whole house to ourselves as the entire broadway cares staff was busy working ‘broadway bares’ (which was awesome btw). i had to be out there to sell tickets so i rented it out to my buds for super cheap. jess left before this night of awesomeness ensued so she doesn’t grace any of these photos.

we went over to cherry grove during the day. that’s the neighborhood next to the pines. it’s kind of crazier and ‘freakier.’ lovely. katie and i bought matching t-shirts. then we ran into some guys i knew from metropolitan (gay bar - williamsburg) and i invited them over for dinner at our fabulous ocean-front house. they came, brought booze and friends.

in this house we stayed in there was this ‘cupcake tree’ for displaying massive amounts of cupcakes for children to grab easily (and stylishly). we seized the opportunity and made some yellow cupcakes with fresh whipped cream and strawberry frosting. yum. here you go (captions below) :

ponce on bed

just returned home from dropping off ponce, my cat, at my parent’s house. they’ll be taking care of him for a month while i’m in france. oh yeah, i’m going to france with big dance theater for a month to work on a new piece called ‘comme toujours here i stand.’ we’ll be in lyon for three weeks.

fear not i will blog as much as possible to keep you up to date.

but right now, i just miss my mister kitty. it’s weird to see this apartment without him. and it’ll be really weird to go to sleep without him snuggling me off to dreamland. sigh.

who ever thought i would become a cat lady?

oh wait. everyone.

george michael\'s \'twenty five\' album cover

so i’m trying to write a george michael-esque soul power ballad for tina’s piece and i stumbled upon this album in my research. twenty five is this amazing retrospective of the master’s work (in the recording studio of course) and includes 29 remastered tracks and a shit load of music videos. i highly suggest purchasing this baby on itunes for the meager price of $34.99.

also in my “research” i found that mr. m will totally be playing madison square garden on july 23. holy shit do you want to go with me? let’s buy tickets.

summer brew with j

Friday, June 13th, 2008

alas a non-photo post today, as i sit here typing on an archaic, hand-me-down compaq without adobe creative suite in jess’ kitchen. she’s getting dressed and singing ani difranco.

it’s summer friday’s at the ole’ office so i got out of work at 3 today. i was planning on posting something about witness relocation’s new show ‘vicious dogs on premises’ now in its last weekend at the ontological hysteric theatre. i saw this show last night because i’m a fan of the company and everyone that’s involved in it is a friend. it was awesome. it was kind of like an improv game peppered with sick, sick jokes and ridiculous dances. brilliance. the photos of the show from director dan safer’s facebook page are awesome - wish i could post one. (compaq, remmber?).

jess and i are going to park slope in a bit to see our friend andrew dinwiddie’s show ‘the accursed items’ at BAX.

our plan is to get some summer brew and drink it on the pulaski bridge before heading over. wish us luck.

it’s a lovely day. let’s keep it that way.

that’s a quote from this awesome band ‘poster children’ from seattle that i discovered in high school because their album cover looked cool.

the gutter

the gutter

last night - after the storm - jess and i got high and went to the gutter. we’d been there once before (the time jess got drunk and left her passport under a seat) and it was loads of fun. we ran into a girl that i went to ‘the senator matty feldman camp for multicultural diversity’ with in high school (for serious). she looked like she was on some kind of date with this girl who was chaperoning a corporate event for warner brothers. she got us some free drinks.

then laura (jess’ boo) showed up and we played two games.

the lesbians kicked my ass. my highest score was 70.

my aunt used to be a semi-pro bowler, and i would always try to emulate her style. you know, with the leg crossing behind you thing? well it didn’t work when i was 10, and it still doesn’t.

the best part about the gutter, imho, is the awesome graffiti inside the individual bathroom stalls. i saw one last night that said something to the effect of :

“i took it up the butt! - 4/19/06″

geniusness.

blue angels after a show

these two photos came from a google image search for “blue angels jet” that i did and can be found at : http://eddiemorris.com/blue_angels.htm.

blue angels delta formation

the other day i found a video of the blue angels flying on youtube when i was looking for that knife music video. i typed in “the knife pass this on” and i got a video called “opposing knife edge pass” - which was two jet planes flying at eachother, turning 90 degrees and passing each other then corkscrewing out.

they’re pretty awesome :

check it.

dancing at the crossroads

if you happen to read this before 5pm (maybe 4:30pm depending on where you live) today, sunday june 8, and you’ve got nothing to do, then come on down to times square for the third annual dancing at the crossrads.

this is an awesome event that i help put on as part of my job at dancers responding to AIDS. it is produced with the times square alliance - the people responsible for new year’s eve - and is basically a huge free dance blowout showcasing the diversity of dance in new york city at the ‘crossroads of the world’ - times square.

it’s at 5pm, and lasts about 2 hours. it takes place on military island, which is between 43rd and 44th streets in times square. you can’t miss it. it’s a giant stage in the middle of the street. and it’s FREE.

companies performing include : martha graham dance company, david dorfman dance, pilobolus, nai-ni chen dance company, buglisi dance theatre, and keigwin + company. also making a special guest appearance performing a number from their show : the cast of broadway’s crybaby.

so come on over to the square if you’re down for seeing some awesome free dance. but bring some cash to make a donation to our DRA bucket brigade!

thanks, and have a lovely sunday.
