so this is a double retroactive post about lyon, originally written on fire island, but finished and finally posted from my apartment in queens as my lazy cat hangs out in my bookshelf. here you go, katie and i go (went) to the musee des beaux arts [captions below]:

this painting by lyonaise painter claude bonnefond (b. 1796, d. 1860) sturck me immediately. look at the dying guy’s right hand.

here’s a portrait of claude bonnefond by sebastien melchior cornu, another lyonaise painter (b.1804, d. 1870).

this guy’s hair was fucking awesome. he’s called “Fleury Richard, peintre” and the sculptor is clemence sophie de sermezy (b. 1767, d. 1850).

a room of big paintings. i think one is a reubens.

this painting by joseph desire court was amazing. it captivated me for a while. it’s called “A Scene from a Flood.”

a detail of this crazy mom with her baby. check out the tear.

reubens vs. man.

this was painted by suzanne valadon in 1913. modernity crests!

this one was a fav amongst the two of us. leonard-tsuguhara fujita’s self portrait. this dude was born in tokyo in 1886 and died in zurich in 1968. (fyi - in this museum all the little tags next to the paintings had a birth and death PLACE as well as year).

detail. CAT!

a photorealistic masterpiece by lyonaise painter nicolas sicard (b. 1846, d. 1920).

room of big art.

place de terreaux with awesome light. this is right outside the museum.

this fountain which we called “the horse fountain” was made by frédéric bartholdi, the dude that sculpted the statue of liberty (remember, it was a gift from france!).

bumble bee werrrrk, non?
