Thanks for readin, Joe!

Sprint's exclusivity with the Pre is actually short compared to some partnerships (the iPhone and AT&T for instance). Palm has always sold their phones to multiple carriers and the Pre will be no different. Verizon will be picking it up next year, and AT&T shortly after that.

If you want to stick with T-Mobile, I'm sure there will be some unlocking options for the Pre. I've read that it's much easier to jailbreak than an iPhone and I'm sure that unlocking is easier too. Of course that will take you out of the running for some warranties and insurance, I'm sure.

As far as Sprint's service goes, I don't have any direct experience. From what I've heard, it's completely functional in New York and data-wise is actually BETTER than other carriers (including Verizon). It's definitely cheaper than most other providers, but I have heard that they do gouge you on roaming fees. I'd definitely research all this before making a switch.

In direct comparison to AT&T, however, I've both heard and observed real-world tests that put Sprint's data network on top with speed and reliability.

Good luck! Let me know what you do!

The iPod Touch is lovely - my boyfriend has one. But it only works where there's a wi-fi signal and just isn't practical when you're on the move. Also there's something a little sad about having something that looks like an iPhone but isn't one, at least for me. I'd be bummed I didn't have the real thing.

Why not get an iPod Touch? Then you could have all the wonderful wifi features without a data plan. They're giving them away with new Apple computers all summer.

Thanks for this run-down Chris! Super helpful as I have been thinking about moving on from my RAZR too. What about this Sprint exculsivity thing with the Pre? I find this a very hard aspect to swallow, as a happy T-Mobile user, I appreciate the EASY and relatively affordable international aspect of the GSM networks. Sprint seems complicated abroad, and from what I have read also expensive.
