at long last, here are my pics from our visit to ‘temple expiatori de la sagrada familia,’ the unfinished masterpiece of catalan architect antonin gaudí. they’ve been working on it for over 100 years and it should be finished in about 20.
i’ll be back when it’s done. promise.

apparently this roman catholic church must be built exclusively with private funds because it is a temple of ‘attonement.’ that’s why the EU or spain hasn’t bailed out the project and tidied it up in a few years.

this is a view from one of the 8 belltowers that already exist. when the temple is completed there will be 18 spires total, including a large central spire that will be the tallest building in barcelona when finished.

here’s jesus, sculpted by joseph maria suribachs - who is responsible for most of the cathedrals exterior statues and adornments.

here’s jess overcoming her vertigo.

this building is the most amazing architectural feat i’ve ever witnessed with my own eyes. frankly, gaudí kind of puts frank lloyd wright to shame. this cathedral is absolutely a must see for anyone who appreciates art, sculpture, god or the simple virtuosity of human acchievement.
