where’s chris? [vejer de la frontera, spain]

vejer de la frontera

so right now i’m in paris staying at the amazing apartment of my dear friend cecile. this morning i woke up at 6am in the tiny pueblo que se llama Vejer De La Frontera, where i stayed for two days with my new friend (and big dance theater alum) Ally.

Vejer is one of a handful of towns on the southern coast of spain that has some of the only virgin beaches left in the world. no hotels. no boardwalks or amusement parks. just sand, surf, rocks and a couple of amazing bars and restaurants.

shortly after the above photo was taken, Ally and i had a dip in the Atlantic. the winds in Vejer are intense at times but contrarily, when the winds are colder, the water is warmer, so even for May the temperature was wonderful.

this is canela, one of three amazing cats that live with Ally at her apartment. it was so good to get to hang out with some cats! missing my little man back at home…

here is the view from a fabulous tapas restaurant in Vejer that overlooked the campo, or countryside. if you look close you can see a bunch of massive windmills that harvest the intense winds of the coast.

here is a view of the town from a vista from an old moorish tower that is now part of a senior citizens’ home. i told Ally she should start selling white paint. she’s make a fortune there.

la guapa Allyson content with her phenomenal life.

spending time with Ally, a total gypsy of the world, made me confident about the courses my life would take. she’s always followed her heart, moving her life to wherever it needed to go without any questions, and always seemed to figure out a way to survive. now her situation isn’t perfect (who’s is these days…) but she’s absolutely appreciative of the fact that she lives in one of the most beautiful places in the world and is governed exclusively by her own intuition.

one would imagine that someone, originally from oklahoma, that’s been traveling the world for years and spent the better part of a decade in andalucĂa would be jaded with ‘the life.’ but alas, the most refreshing thing about Ally is that she’s still poised for what’s next, waiting for the next place the coastal winds will blow her to. without fear. without question.
